Leisure Night Beijing Shichahai

Houhai lies in the Di'anmen in Beijing. It is an integral part of the Shichahai, but we habitually use Houhai refers to the Shichahai. Shichahai consists of the Qianhai (Front Sea); Houhai (Back Sea); Xihai (Western Sea).

Houhai starts from the outer street of Di'anmen, west to Xinjiekou Street, south to the Peace Street, north to the North Second Ring, covering a total area of 146.7 hectares, including water area of 34 hectares, green land area of 11.5 hectares. This is ancient waters of Yuan Dynasty 700 years ago in Beijing City.

Houhai is an idle land with water, mountain and weeping willow. The folk houses and residents on the shore, along with the palace, former residence of celebrities, brings Houhai boundless history and Beijing flavour. Tourists here are still able to hear the sound of the autumn worm, see the epitome of the old Beijing courtyards, experience the ancient royal life.



Though it is called the sea, actually, it is a huge artificial lake, which was an exclusive pool of the old royal family. Houhai is located in the central Beijing, only four or five stations from the Tiananmen Square and it is opposite to the Forbidden City. 







It is said that the waters of Houhai is attached to the dragon vein of the Forbidden City; in all ages, it is a Feng Shui treasure-house. Hence, monks from successive dynasties built temple here, while other officials and nobles had built their private gardens and residence on the shore. And celebrities moved to this lake, and began their life here.
