How to Get to National Forest Park

Zhangjiajie is in the northwest of Hunan province, Zhangjiajie downtown is Yongding district, while Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Wulingyuan district. From Zhangjiajie Bus Station to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the distance is 30 km, and it takes 40 min's driving.



► By bus from Zhangjiajie Bus Station(Recommended)

Zhangjiajie Bus Station is 700 meters away from Zhangjiajie Railway Station, and 6 km from Zhangjiajie Airport (15 min’s driving).
 

• To the front gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: 12 yuan per person (35-40 min).
• To Tianzi Mountain gate: 15 yuan per person (1.5 h).
• To Wulingyuan gate: 14 yuan per person (40-50 min).

Service time: 06:30 AM-7:30 PM.

(Tianzi Mountain)

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a paradise of oxygen, provided by a vast forest with over 3,000 peaks here and there. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is famous for its large scale of vertical peaks with various of shapes due to karst formation. And it was listed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1992.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park covers a vast land of beautiful natural scenery, and consists of 8 parts, and the most popular are Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, Golden Whip Stream, and Tianzi mountain.

► Ticket Station: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park has 5 gates for ticketing, and they are the front gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain gate, Wulingyuan gate, Yangjiajie gate, and Shuirao Simen gate. There are direct buses from Zhangjiajie Bus Station to the former 3 gates.

► Best time to visit: April to November.

► Open time: 08:00-18:00(1st, March-30th, November), 08: 30-18:00(1st, December-28th, February), from Monday to Sunday.

► Entrance ticket & cable car price: 228 yuan (ticket is available for 3 days), not including transportation fare, cable car fare, and Bailong Elevator ticket.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Highlights

Yuanjiajie: Yuanjiajie is a magic world made by uprights peaks, and a mist world in foggy days or rainy days, and you may have already seen its majesty in the movie Avator. In here, you could also see the highest bridge over two mountains with a height of 375 meters.

• Tianzi Mountain: peaks of interesting shapes are its charming, the beautiful views from the sky( by Tianzi Mountain cable car), and dangerous skywall.
   
• Huangshi Village: you would like to go to the highest and biggest observation deck for panoramic views.
   
• Yangjiajie: dangerous paths with splendid sceneries are the favorite of hikers and adventurers.
   
• Golden Whip Stream: a clean stream flows through the valley with peaks in its two sides, and the area is covered by large trees and greenery. It is definitely a good place for a leisure time and hiking.
   
• Charming Xiangxi Show: the show has traditional dances of Miao, Tujia ethnic groups, and performances about local custom, and folktales. You could enjoy a totally different show unlike those you have seen before.

Day Tour Itinerary & Sightseeing Routes

For a day tour in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, it is not likely for you to visit all places, since there are 8 big places which also have several small places, and it needs much time in walking and hiking though you could get some help from eletromobile (tourist bus). Thus you need to make choices in those highlights, Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, Golden Whip Stream, Yangjiajie, etc. 3 great hiking places are Golden Whip Stream, Yangjiajie, and Tianzi Mountain.

► Option 1: Wulingyuan Gate-Shili Hualang-Bailong Elevator-Yuanjiajie-Yangjiajie-Tianzi Mountain Gate/ Yangjiajie Gate.

From Wulingyuan Gate to Shili Hualang, the distance is about 8 km, and the walking time is 1.5-2 hours. Shili Hualang to the upper station of Bailong Elevator, the distance is 4.2 km, and you need walk about 1 hour. Then you take the elevator to the mountain top and walk to Yuanjiajie to see places like Hallejujah Mountain. Next you take eletromobile bus at the parking lot of No.1 Bridge, 10 min later, you will arrive Yuanjiajie. At Yuanjiajie, you could have 2-3 hours tour. Last you could take eletromobile bus to -Tianzi Mountain Gate/ Yangjiajie Gate. From Yangjiajie to Tianzi Mountain gate, the distance is 13.5 km (3 hours by walking).

► Toption 2: Tianzi Mountai Gate-Tianzi Mountain cable car- Shili Hualang-Wulingyuan Gate.



FromTianzi Mountain gate to Wulingyuan gate, the distance is around 25.5 km. Tianzi Mountain scenic spot has many small places for sightseeing, and it covers a large land. You could make it a hiking route for this whole route, and you could also make use of eletromobile bus for a complement of hiking. From Tianzi Mountain Gate, bus is available to Tianzi Mountain for taking cable car. Then you could walk to Shili Hualang, and to Wulingyuan Gate. Shili Hualang to Wulingyuan Gate, you could make use of the small train. 

► Option 3: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park-Golden Whip Stream- Shuirao Simen-Bailong Elevator-Shili Hualang-Wulingyuan Gate.



This route is for hiking. From Golden Whip Stream to Shuirao Simen, it takes about 2 hours of hiking, and from Shuirao Simen to Bailong Elevator, you need another over 1 hours of walking.

► Option 4: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park-Huangshi Village-Yuanjiajie-Yangjiajie-Yangjiajie Gate.

► Option 5: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park-Huangshi Village-Yuanjiajie-Tianzi Mountain Gate.

► Option 6: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park-Golden Whip Stream-Shuirao Simen- Bailong Elevator-Yuanjiajie- Tianzi Mountain Gate.
