Ping'an Village in Guilin Longsheng County is a part of Longji Terraced Field Scenic Area, so is Dazai Village. They are two famous viewing site of the Longji Terraced Field Scenic Area. But the two villages is quite far away from each other. Ping'an Village is 8 km east of Heping Township in Longsheng, 95 kilometers (59 miles) from Guilin, about two and a half hours' drive, by the less direct route.
To get to Ping'an Village from Dazai Village, there are two ways to choose from.
Visitors could take regular bus (Dazhai Red Yao Village - Longsheng Bus Station) and get off at Erlong (also know as Double Dragon) Bridge. Then transfer to a van to Ping'an parking area and walk 20 minutes to Ping'an Zhuang Village.
Walk from the fork between No.1 and No.2 viewing platforms on Dazhai Yao Village Rice Terraces to the Ping'an Zhuang Village. It takes 3 to 4 hours. This is one of the most famous trekking routes in Longji Terraced Field. For the fields are mostly built into the hillsides, the best and also the only way to view these fields is by walking up the steep mountainsides. But it is easy to get lost for foreigners, because there are a considerable number of small paths. So it highly recommended hiring a local tour guide to do the trekking together with you. If not, take the slate path for the Ping’an Zhuang Village.
•Dazhai Village is quieter and far less crowded than Ping'an Village.
•The terraced rice fields and the village in Dazhai Village are more natural with less of the distractions of the tourist facilities like hotels, souvenir stalls and restaurants, etc.
•In addition to the scenery, another highlight of Dazhai Village is a family visit. Local residents in the village live in their traditional way; they are little affected by the visit of travelers. Paying a visit to a local family and getting a glimpse of their simple local lifestyle would be a funny experience.
