How to Get to Dujiangyan from Chengdu

Where is Dujiangyan ?

Dujiangyan is located about 45km north of Chengdu which is famous for Dujiangyan Irrigation System and Dujiangyan Panda Base. Dujiangyan Irrigation System is the great technological achievement of ancient China. For more than 2,300 years of irrigation, Dujiangyan has benefited the local people just as it prevents Min River basin from annual flooding and made the ancient Shu State and famed as‘land of abundance'. Dujiangyan Panda Base is the only professional organization in the world for research on the prevention and control of giant pandas. How to get to Dujiangyan from Chengdu?

By Intercity Train (Recommended)

More than 20 intercity trains are available from Chengdu to Dujiangyan with less than 30 minutes on the way. Tickets fare is also cheap, CNY 10 per person for soft seats. Kindly note that all trains from Chengdu to Dujiangyan depart from Chengdu Xipu Station.

By Tourist Bus from Downtown Scenic Areas

Buses from People Park(人民公园) to Dujiangyan, depart at 06:30 and there are 2 buses every day
Buses from Kuai Zhai Alley (宽窄巷子)to Dujiangyan, 8 buses every day,6 of them depart at 7:00 and the other 2 depart at 11:00 a.m.

By Long-distance Bus

By taking long-distance bus, visitors should go to Chadianzi Bus Station in Chengdu (take Subway Line 2 to get to Chadianzi Passenger Terminal). It will take 0.5 hours to arrive in Dujiangyan. The bus drops you off at the front gate of Dujiangyan Scenic Area, which is not actually the start of the trails.

You can either climb to the top which takes around 2-3 hours or take a boat across the lake (¥5) to a ropeway (¥35 one way ¥60 round trip) which will get you there sooner depending on the queue. A sedan chair can also be hired for ¥100 or more in which two men carry you up to the mountain. Some buses may drop you off at Dujiangyan Passenger Transportation Center, then you need to take Bus No. 8 to get to Dujiangyan irrigation system area.
