During Yuan and Ming dynasties, government set colored glass-making workshop here, so this place was got the name “
Liulichang” (workshop of making colored glass articles). And in Qing Dynasty, antique merchants began their business here. And till Qianlong period, this street gradually developed into a cultural street sold antiques, Chinese paintings, ancient books, and four treasures of Chinese calligraphy. With the time passed, it was turned into a cultural street after liberation. From then on, the famous brand Rongbaozhai (a shop sold four treasures of Chinese calligraphy). And in 1982, Liulichang Cultural Street experienced a renovation. And now, this street is decorated with various shops with green walls and grey roofs. With brick carvings, this street is colored as the market which can be found in the ancient time.
Decades of shops along this street will make tourists find lots of funs here. If you want to buy Chinese paintings, Wenbaizhai and Baofuzhai will be first choices. And if you are interested in antiques and potteries, go to visit Yunguzhai and Cuizhenzhai. Buying four treasures of Chinese calligraphy in Yixunge and Yidezhai, and jewelries and jade wares can be found in Zhenhuange and Zhenyunge. People can find instrument in Lehaixuan and Guyizhai, ancient packages and ancient books in Ruichengzhai, palace lanterns in Wenshengzhai, carpets in Jinchang Shop.

Nanluoguxiang is one of the most ancient streets in Beijing. Still keeping the style in Yuan Dynasty, Nanluoguxiang was originally built in Yuan Dynasty with a length of 800 meters.
After pushing a heavy carving door, you will see a bright traditional courtyard immediately. Talking, laughing, birds’ singing, are all can be heard at this moment. Bars are also spread over this street with the peaceful atmosphere.
Besides bars, Nanluoguxiang also develops into a commercial area with nostalgic and friendly environment. Food shop which open since the last century, yoghurt shop, clean and cheap hostel, all of these factors become charms of this street so that people will slow down their step here
