Located in Xizhimen, Xicheng District, Beijing, Beijing North Railway Station is the China's first self-designed and built trunk railway—Beijing to Zhangjiakou railway. Formerly known as Xizhimen Station, Beijing North Railway Station is the originating station of Beijing suburb S2 Line, as well as the start station of planned Beijing-Zhangjiakou intercity in Beijing. Beijing-Yanqing S2 Line multiple unit trains and scheduled passenger trains to Qiqihar, Chifeng, Chengde and other places all start from the station. In addition, there are trains passing by the station to Baotou, Hohhot, Tongliao, Manchuria and other places.

History of Beijing North Railway Station
Beijing North Railway Station was called Xizhimen Statioin before. Completed in August 1906, "Xizhimen Station" on Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway was designed and supervised by the famous Chinese railway engineer, Jeme Tien Yow, who is the father of Chinese railway. The main building of the station, platforms and overpass connecting the two platforms were designed by him. In 1970s, after a few railway paragraphs within Beijing were removed Xizhimen station became the starting station of Beijing-Baotou Railway. The trains from Beijing to Tongliao, Chifeng and Badaling Great Wall and other places should depart from Beijing North Railway Station. In 1988, Xizhimen Station was renamed as Beijing North Railway Station. The station building designed by Jeme Tien Yow has a Western classical style and is an important physical example in the history of China's railway.
The renovation project of Beijing North Railway Station started in 2005. The project mainly included the expansion of the station building, as well as rebuild of platforms, railway lines and traffic signals. A total investment of the project amounted 110 million Yuan.
Structure of Beijing North Railway Station
The new Beijing North Railway Station was officially put into use on 17, 2009. After the transformation, ticket hall and waiting room are located in the western side of the station. The main station house is at the end of the station house. The main building of Beijing North Railway has 6 floors above ground and 2 floors underground. The building is 31.5 meters high, with a construction area of 20,000 square meters. The first above ground and the first underground floors has waiting rooms for passengers and ticket offices. It is connected with the Xizhimen traffic hub, close to Metro Line 2, Line 4 and Line 13. The second and fifth floors are used as office.
Beijing North Railway Station Platform owns 6 platforms and 12 lines. The effective length extended from 550 meters to 377 meters. Sites with marble tiles, the height of platform increased from 70 cm up to 125 cm, which is convenient for tourists to get on and off. The original wooden sleepers were replaced by the domestic type II reinforced concrete sleepers to improve the stability of the trains’ running and comfort of passengers.
Beijing Suburban S2 Line
Beijing Suburban S2 Line, as main part of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway officially became an integral part of urban rail transit. After the construction of it, underground transfer channel was used and passengers do not have to go on transfer channel above the ground. It only takes six Yuan to go to Yanqing and Badaling Great Wall by the Harmony Great Wall EMU.

Subway: No. 2 and No. 4 Subway Lines are available for you choices. You can take the No. 2Subway Line to go to Beijing Railway Station and No. 4 Subway Line to go to Beijing South Railway Station at Xizhimen Station. You can also take No. 4 Subway Line to National Liberty and then transfer to Beijing West Railway Station.
